Steve Jobs and his amazing engineers at Apple did an amazing job of delivering once again what the public wanted and opening up a whole new frontier of laptops. Intel seeing a massive new market unfolding moved quickly to trademark the name Ultrabook and designate a substantial fund to developing this emerging line of ultraportable laptops with Intel processors.

Since the Ultrabook concept was hatched many want to know what’s inside that sets them apart from a normal laptop, notebook or netbook. What makes a laptop an Ultrabook is a set of specs that Intel has managed to develop. One of the best descriptions of a Ultrabook is that they combine the benefits of a tablet computer with a notebook. Aside from being much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye the first main spec is that Ultrabooks need to be extremely thin measuring less than eight tenths of an inch thick. The next aspect is that these laptops must contain a solid state hard drive, weigh less than 3 pounds and have a battery life of a minimum of 5 hours. Another stipulation that Intel put in place is that they need to cater to mainstream affordability in coming in at one thousand dollars or less however to date some are exceeding this budget slightly. Surprisingly being labeled an Ultrabook does not cater to being necessarily Windows or Mac but rather is based on hardware alone. The final feature that sets an Ultrabook apart from other similar laptops and notebooks is a screen display size of either 11 or 13 inches.
